“When I was in school, we always had to write an essay on how I spent my summer vacaciones.”Look at how creatively our teacher Angela motivated our students to do something different ✨They painted cameras—and the roll of film coming out—became each child’s own images of summer. A hands-on, imaginative way to tell their stories without writing a single paragraph.Learning like this builds confidence, creativity, and a real love for self-expression—exactly what every child deserves.#CreativeLearning #EducationMatters #nonprofit #costarica ... #TBT Throwback Thursday to when we began building the Centro Modelo in La Carpio at the end of the 90’s, and into 2000. A lot has changed since then. If you’ve visited recently, you might recognize this building. The background has changed significantly as the community has grown and improved. Back then we worked with Dartmouth College and other schools along with our street kids program to construct this Family Wellbeing Center. Serving multiple purposes, from a clinic and prekindergarten, to a training center for sports, wood workshop, clothing sales and most recently computer lab. 📖 💻 🏥 This is the building we are now remodeling with the funding from the Swiss embassy. The workers are cooking with gas! More on that soon…. 🇨🇭#CostaRica #switzerland #nonprofit #construction @dartmouthcollege ... Ver másVer menos

These are Carla’s children. Three months ago, they returned to Nicaragua to care for their sick grandmother. But Carla quickly realized how difficult it was to provide for her children there—limited work opportunities, rising costs, and challenging living conditions made it nearly impossible. Thanks to your support, we were able to help bring them back to La Carpio. Here, they’ll have access to nutritious meals, education, and a safe place to grow and thrive. Most importantly, they’ll be surrounded by a community that cares. We’re ready to welcome Carla and her children back—with open arms and full hearts.#CostaRica #LaCarpio #CommunitySupport #Nonprofit #Education ... Throwback Thursday #tbt to our work jn the mountains of Escazu. This was in Bebedero, we built a classroom and worked with youth development. This was in loving memory of our dear friend and supporter from Peace Corps, Beth Livingston. She was an avid hiker and loved the mountains of Escazu, that is where she laid to rest after a hiking accident. You can visit the school and see the classroom in use to this day. All the cheerful children learning, laughing and breathing the fresh Escazu mountains’ air. We’ll be doing a series highlighting and explaining our work in the 90’s based on our pinned, trending, recently uploaded 3 minute long clip “What were you like in the 90’s”.#costarica #escazú #nonprofitorganization #ngo @peacecorpscostarica ... It’s that time of year again in beautiful Costa Rica 🌿🌸The mountains and roads light up as the trees burst into color — yellow, orange, red, pink, white, and so much more. 🌈 There is such incredible beauty in the diversity this country has to offer.Pictured here is the stunning Tabebuia ochracea (Corteza Amarilla). When its bright yellow flowers fall, they create a golden carpet along the roadsides for a few magical days — a gift for anyone passing by. A simple but powerful reminder of how nature provides beauty, renewal, and joy in every season. 💛✨Eco-Camp has been one of our foundational programs, focusing on connecting youth from different backgrounds with nature. Through hikes, environmental education, team-building activities, and shared experiences outdoors, students learn not only about conservation — but about themselves and one another. In a country so rich in biodiversity, these moments matter. When people stand beneath trees like the Corteza Amarilla, feel the mountain air, and witness the changing seasons, they begin to understand their role as stewards of this land.Nature becomes the classroom. Diversity becomes the lesson. And respect for one another — and for creation — becomes the takeaway. 🌿#nature #nonprofit #environment #costarica #volunteer ... Ver másVer menos

Contributions came from volunteers and partners across multiple countries, as well as from academic institutions whose students and faculty supported educational, community development, and health initiatives in Costa Rica. Our English and computer class kids had a wonderful day at the local swim park! 🏊‍♀️✨This special outing was their reward for achieving 100% attendance for twelve straight weeks — an incredible commitment we’re so proud of.As part of their reflection time, each student shared something new they learned during the program. 💬💡And look at this beautiful moment…Marisol leading the group in one of Eco Camp’s favorite mindfulness exercises:lying on the grass and playing with the clouds. ☁️💚A simple reminder to breathe, imagine, and connect with nature.#CRHF #EducationForAll #CommunityPrograms #CostaRica #KidsCan #EcoCamp #GivingBack #LearningThroughPlay #nonprofit #ngo ... 🇨🇷✨ Costa Rica Celebrates PeaceToday, Costa Rica honors one of its most defining and inspiring decisions—Día de la Abolición del Ejército, the day our military was officially abolished in 1948.Instead of investing in war, our nation chose to invest in education, health, and human dignity. That legacy lives on in classrooms, community centers, clinics, and programs that empower those most in need.At the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation, we carry that spirit forward every day—believing that peace is built through opportunity, compassion, and justice, not conflict.🕊️ Today, we celebrate a country that leads with humanity—and we recommit ourselves to helping families, children, and communities thrive.💜 From all of us at CRHF, thank you for supporting peace in action.#costarica #díadelaabolicióndelejército #noarmyday #CostaRicaSinEjército #paz #peace #HumanitarianWork #CRHF #costaricanhumanitarianfoundation #EducationForAll #PeaceInAction #servewithlove #ComunidadCR #somoscostarica #nonviolencemovement #HumanDignity #costaricapuravida ... ✨ This is the real way to make tamales! ✨With the holiday season upon us, tamales are a traditional and delicious food cooked during these times to celebrate — and few experiences compare to watching them made the authentic way.One of the true highlights of our trip to Amubri was having the privilege of watching Doña Petra prepare traditional tamales — Bribri style. In the video, you’ll see the full process as she explains each step in the Bribri language, honoring a recipe and method passed down through generations. And of course, there was a surprise moment…“I wasn’t so thrilled when I realized the delicious-looking chunks of meat being tucked into the leaves came from a pig we had seen and heard the night before.” — Gail 🐖😅It’s a reminder of the cycle of life, the connection between land, food, culture, and gratitude.🌿🍃 These aren’t just tamales — they’re tradition, identity, and love.#nonprofit #costarica #ngo #volunteer #indigenous #amubri ... Their kindness and spirit of community were felt deeply. We were especially moved to take part in an art auction honoring a dear friend and longtime supporter of the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation — an incredibly talented artist whose work and heart continue to touch lives. The pieces auctioned were his own creations, a beautiful testament to the legacy he leaves behind.💛 Thank you for the inspiration, the friendship, and the lasting mark you’ve made.Together, we remember. 🌿 Teacher Tuesday 💜Teaching isn’t just about delivering information — it’s about patience, presence, and understanding the pace of every learner.A great teacher knows that growth doesn’t always happen instantly. Sometimes the most powerful learning takes place quietly, gradually, and unpredictably — long after the lesson ends.Today, we celebrate the teachers who:✨ Repeat instructions with kindness✨ Notice the child who needs just a little more time✨ Celebrate effort — not perfection✨ Stay steady even when progress feels slow✨ Believe in students before they believe in themselvesYour patience is not just a skill — it’s a gift.A gift that nurtures confidence, resilience, and curiosity in every learner you touch. From everyone at the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation, thank you for showing up, not just to teach — but to guide, encourage, and trust the process.💜 You are shaping futures, one quiet moment at a time.#education #nonprofit #costarica #ngo #volunteer #sanjosé #volunteerprograms #donation #givingtuesday ... Lovely donations from kind people. Today we picked up 1,000 face masks from @colchonesjiron . Thanks to their kind donation we will have face masks for our clinic days, during any unforeseen events, and to share with other local organizations. We’ve been doing a lot of donation drives, and have gotten all kinds of beautiful gifts. We can wait to share them with our community of beneficiaries. 🌿 Montessori and Adolescence 🌿Maria Montessori described adolescence as a “sensitive period for social consciousness.”During these years, young people are driven to find their place in the world — to contribute meaningfully, understand justice, and develop independence.🧠 When we guide adolescents through real experiences — community projects, creative work, or mentoring younger children — we support their natural search for identity and purpose.✨ Adolescents don’t just need to be taught — they need to be trusted, respected, and given the chance to make a difference.#Montessori #AdolescentDevelopment #CostaRicanHumanitarianFoundation ... It’s Teacher Tuesday, and here’s something you might not know:Teachers make around 1,500 decisions a day — from how to explain a concept, to when to offer encouragement, to how to spark curiosity in every student. That means teachers are not just educators — they’re leaders, mentors, and decision-makers who shape minds and futures one thoughtful moment at a time. 💜At the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation, we honor your strength, resilience, and creativity — especially during challenging times. 🌿 Creative Learning in Amubri 🌿On our recent visit to our beloved Amubri Indigenous community, we worked with the children to create two beautiful diorama projects. Using simple materials at hand, they built a lush green jungle and a fiery dinosaur world — all from their imagination! 🦕🌴It was inspiring to see how alert, focused, and engaged the children became during this creative and hands-on activity. 🍽️ La Libertad Hot Meal Program 🌿In one of La Carpio’s most impoverished areas, this program offers youth not just a healthy meal, but a safe space to grow, learn, and connect. 💚Our backyard is one of the few green spaces and playgrounds in the community — a place where kids can simply be kids. 🌳🎈Local women collaborate with the youth, ensuring ongoing guidance and support as they grow into adulthood. This is one of our longest-running programs, and we’re proud to have watched so many babies grow into adults now giving back to their community and a prosperous society. 🙌💫Watch how happy and excited the kids are, in part knowing the delicious food is being served!#CostaRicanHumanitarianFoundation #LaCarpio #CommunityDevelopment #YouthPrograms #HopeInAction #Empowerment #nonprofit #ngo #health #education ... 🌱 Adolescent Insight of the Week 🌱Adolescence is a powerful period of transformation. Just as the first six years lay the foundation for life, the adolescent years build identity, independence, and social responsibility.🧠 During this stage, the brain is still developing—especially in areas linked to decision-making and self-regulation. At the same time, teens are seeking purpose, belonging, and opportunities to contribute.✨ When adolescents are offered respect, meaningful work, and guidance—not just control—they are more likely to grow into confident, empathetic, and capable adults.#Adolescence #humandevelopment #montessoriadolescence #costaricanhumanitarianfoundation ...
