A most happy reunion.Two years ago, when Dr. Joe and his wife first began to work with us, one of his patients was a bedraggled sight to see. Thin as a rail. Shirtless. Unable to talk.But… we all saw something in him. Like a very deeply hidden sweetness. He finally hit bottom about six months ago and disappeared. I gave him up for gone and quietly mourned.Lo and behold!Four weeks ago, he appeared fully dressed and very verbal. He had gone through drug treatment and was asking for work with us. We cautiously took him on probation. What probation??! He became one of our best workers. On time. Polite. Willing to do whatever was needed. A great problem solver. So… of course, he managed to find a real job earning real money.Wow. Do we miss him! So, he offered to come and help on the weekends.Meanwhile, Joe and Nicolle returned. They asked about their special boy on their first day. They had seen a guy rummaging through the garbage and had assumed it was him. I told them I didn’t know anything about him.Then we arranged for a surprise reunión.It was an amazing moment when they first laid eyes on him. A very special, moving, cry-for-happiness moment.We never gave up on him. And our core team of collaborators gave him a safe place to learn to fly again. And now he has left the nest as a strong eagle who can take care of himself. ...
