Last week we visited our center in Uvita. We are very excited to get it going again for children. We met with the teachers and director of the Public school to lay out our plan of starting the youth development program up. This is part of our Family Wellbeing Center model we develop across CR.Initially, we are visiting once monthly to garner support from parents and interest from the kids. We are also looking for the right collaborator to run the program on a more regular basis once we have built interest. We will then train the collaborator to begin a more constant presence in 2025.In the meantime the center continues to serve as a space for local women to meet for a number of reasons, including finding solutions to substance abuse and prostitution among youth in the community. Sadly, this has become a growing trend with the onslaught of international visitors who are creating a demand by searching for this type of recreation.Thanks to our new donor who has been what seems to be a miracle and came just at the right time to help relieve a lot of financial pressures Gail and the CRHF have every month. #TbT in today’s throwback Thursday we are highlighting our medical work as one of the main programs of the CRHF. In the video our clinic in La Carpio headed by Dr. Evelyn Sanchez. She was the second doctor to work in the clinic. The clinic was open for 15 years providing essential services to people who didn’t have social security services with the government. This was before the government built a local clinic (EBAIS).This video created by Common Ground International was one of the medical volunteer groups we hosted. It highlights our work which is true to date. We continue to provide essential medical services to marginalized and underserved communities. We just received an update from the contractor and the regional CCSS Director, for the build of the clinic. We hope to have the inauguration before the end of September. This is going to improve the facilities and services the clinic can provide. It also ensures the contiuation of the health services by providing the medics an adequate space for check ups and treatment.
