Spring, Summer and Winter Programs
Our seasonal group volunteer programs invite people from around the world to make a meaningful contribution to Costa Rican communities while discovering the country’s remarkable natural beauty, culture, and history.
Each program combines hands-on community service with opportunities for cultural exchange, personal development, and exploration. Volunteers begin their journey in Costa Rica’s Greater Metropolitan Area, where they help provide essential resources and support to underserved communities, learn about local social and environmental initiatives, and visit important historical and cultural sites.
Working alongside 10–20 like-minded volunteers, participants become part of a shared experience built on compassion, collaboration, and learning. Whether contributing to community projects, discovering Costa Rica’s rich cultural heritage, or stepping outside their comfort zones, volunteers can expect to be challenged, inspired, and rewarded with meaningful connections and lasting memories.
Following their introduction to the capital region and CRHF’s community programs, participants travel to other destinations across Costa Rica. Accompanied by experienced local guides, volunteers discover the country’s diverse landscapes, ecosystems, and communities through a carefully coordinated program that balances service, education, and recreation.
Wellness and Service
Designed for those seeking a more reflective and restorative experience, our Wellness and Service programs combine meaningful community engagement with activities that promote personal development, mindfulness, and overall well-being.
Participants take part in guided sessions in yoga, breathwork, meditation, and mindfulness, creating space to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and develop tools for managing stress and building resilience. Alongside their service activities, volunteers have opportunities to reflect on their experiences, strengthen their sense of purpose, and explore the relationship between personal well-being and community engagement.
These programs offer a chance to give back while investing in your own personal growth.
Adventure and Service
For those who enjoy an active lifestyle and discovering new challenges, our Adventure and Service programs combine hands-on community work with opportunities to experience Costa Rica’s world-renowned outdoor activities.
Depending on the itinerary, volunteers may enjoy surfing, whitewater rafting, ziplining, and other outdoor adventures while exploring the country’s beaches, rivers, forests, and natural landscapes.
Beyond the excitement, these shared experiences encourage teamwork, confidence, adaptability, and connection. By combining adventure with meaningful service, participants experience Costa Rica beyond traditional tourism, engaging with local communities while discovering the country’s extraordinary biodiversity and natural beauty.

Experienced Local Guides
At the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation, we understand that the people who guide a journey can make all the difference. Throughout our many years of organizing volunteer experiences, we have seen how knowledgeable, dedicated leaders help participants get the most out of their time in Costa Rica.
Our programs are supported by experienced local guides who bring an in-depth understanding of Costa Rica’s geography, culture, flora, and fauna. Their knowledge of local communities, travel logistics, outdoor activities, and emergency procedures helps participants navigate unfamiliar environments with greater confidence while gaining a deeper appreciation of the country.
More than simply showing visitors around, our guides help connect each destination and activity to the broader Costa Rican experience. They encourage curiosity, facilitate cultural exchange, and help volunteers understand the communities they visit and the importance of the work they undertake.
With the support of our team and local partners, participants can enjoy an experience that is educational, engaging, and memorable — one that brings together service, discovery, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference.
